Title
The surprising noise of a watch
Short description
Georg Forster describes the king's surprise at the noise made by the captain Cook's watch.
Text on source
While E-Tee was conversing on religious matters, king Aheatua was playing with Captain Cook's watch. After curiously examining the motion of so many wheels, that seemed to move as it were spontaneously, and shewing his astonishment at the noise it made, which he could not express otherwise than by saying it "spoke" (parou), he returned it, and asked what it was good for.
