The sounds of petrels on Long Island
Short description
Georg Forster describes the sounds of petrels heard during an excursion on the island.
Text on source
The next morning we made an excursion to Long Island, where we found a number of plants and some birds which were new to us. In the woods on the east side we heard some petrels in holes under ground croaking like frogs and cackling like hens; and we supposed them to be of the little diving species, which I have noticed before.
