Carlo Emanuele III decided on the creation of two royal museums, one of oriental antiquities and the other of natural history, and commissioned Vitaliano Donati to undertake an expedition to Egypt and the Indies. Expedition began between 14 and 16 June.

Observations on the travel
This expedition was aimed at collecting archaeological artifacts to set up the Museo della Regia Università (first nucleus of the future Museo Egizio of Turin) and observing cultivation techniques, farming and the processes of mineral extraction.
